AMD Ryzen AI 5 330 with Krackan Point 2 Spotted in Geekbench, Targets Budget Laptops
A recent leak from Geekbench reveals the upcoming launch of a new AMD APU aimed at budget laptops. The chip is called Krackan Point 2, and forms part of the Ryzen AI 5 330 series, and has already appeared in a prototype device by Acer. This new processor features a four-core setup and offers lower performance than the Ryzen AI 5 340 as its name would suggest, and this also firmly positions it for efficient, low-cost devices.
Although official details are still missing, some technical specifications have surfaced, helping to outline this component’s role in basic computing and what’s to be expected.
Krackan Point 2
The Krackan Point 2 APU, labeled KRK2, is an updated version of the earlier Krackan architecture and is used in the Ryzen AI 5 330 series. According to the Geekbench listing, this APU includes four cores: comprising of one Zen 5 core and three Zen 5c cores. This setup is clearly designed for low-power portable systems with modest computing needs.
The full KRK2 chip is expected to come in with slightly beefier specs consisting of two Zen 5 cores and four Zen 5c cores. However, the leaked version seems to be a slightly smaller variant, likely to keep power use and costs down. In terms of graphics, it features a Radeon 820M GPU based on RDNA 3.5 architecture. It likely includes two active Compute Units, which is minimal and matches the basic design of this product.
Performance and Target Use
When compared to the Krackan Point 1 APU in the Ryzen AI 5 340, there is a clear gap. The Ryzen AI 5 340 scores around 2,640 points in single-thread and 10,116 in multi-thread benchmarks on Geekbench. While the Ryzen AI 5 330 scores were not shared, its simpler architecture suggests much lower performance—about 35% less in single-core and 44% less in multi-core tasks.
The Acer laptop using this chip hasn’t been identified, but it is likely a compact device intended for school or basic work. The specs suggest a machine similar to a Chromebook, with a focus on portability and battery life.
