AMD Says Steam Machine Is Expected to Launch in Early 2026
According to AMD, the new Steam Machine is expected to launch in early 2026. The information comes directly from AMD CEO Lisa Su, who discussed the company’s outlook for the coming years and briefly mentioned Valve’s hardware plans.
Lisa Su explained that AMD expects a noticeable drop in revenue from its semi-custom SoC division in 2026, mainly due to the current console generation reaching a mature stage. At the same time, she confirmed that Valve plans to release the Steam Machine in the first part of the year, while development of the next-generation Xbox chip is progressing toward a 2027 launch.
Expected Launch Window And Hardware Details
The Steam Machine is currently expected to launch around March 2026. According to available information, the system will feature a Zen 4 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, 16 GB of RAM, and a GPU below the level of a Radeon RX 7600, paired with 8 GB of video memory. Storage is said to be handled by a 1 TB SSD.
In terms of raw performance, the Steam Machine is not expected to outperform the PS5 Pro. Despite that, early rumors suggest it could be more expensive, largely due to rising DRAM and NAND flash memory costs.
Current estimates place the Steam Machine’s price around 950 euros. This could make it a hard sell, especially when compared to traditional consoles with stronger performance at lower prices.
Its main strength lies in Valve’s support and the use of SteamOS, a gaming-focused operating system that is generally more efficient than Windows 11 for gaming. That said, the PS5 Pro also benefits from a highly optimized custom operating system designed specifically for its hardware.
Whether Valve can repeat the success of the Steam Deck with the Steam Machine remains to be seen. With a high price and strong competition, the challenge will not be an easy one.
It is also worth noting that the Steam Machine is expected to be around six times more powerful than the Steam Deck.
