AMD Wants to Revolutionise The Gaming Laptop Market

Gaming laptops remain extraordinarily expensive and require huge concessions compared to traditional desktops in the horsepower department. As a result, acquiring a portable system which is able to compete with desktops at a reasonable price point can be rather challenging. This means many users either have no choice and accept worse performance or disregard their dream of owning a portable powerhouse which can play the latest games at high presets. Thankfully, AMD has acknowledged this problem and rightfully knows that many prospective PC gamers simply don’t have the room for a large desktop or travel to various hotels and yearn for a good gaming experience on the move. The company’s latest architecture codenamed Polaris is capable of maintaining smooth frame-rates and targets affordability. According to AMD’s recent press slides, this innovative range is “engineered to deliver unprecedented performance”. Polaris’ new manufacturing process allows for massive improvements in performance per watt which lends itself brilliantly to gaming laptops.

Sadly, only 16% of PC users currently own hardware which can provide a premium gaming experience and the reason behind this is very simple. The mainstream customer cannot afford graphics cards costing well above £300 and they have to settle for lower tier hardware. Thanks to AMD this doesn’t mean they’ll regret their purchase and the RX 480 which costs a mere $199 is ready to output a premium VR experience.

Here we can see AMD’s strong argument about the current state of notebook graphics and their intentions to change this space with the release of Polaris.

Are you put off by gaming laptops and their poor price to performance ratio? Hopefully, this will change very soon with the release of Polaris.
