AMD is currently working on a new launch, a new accelerated processing unit in the FM1 package. The A4-3420 is set to be a value model for all those on a tight budget, or simply those without the need for extreme performances.
This APU has already been available in OEM and tray package for system manufacturers since January, but AMD has now decided to release it to the retail channel as a PIB (processor in a box) package.
In the specifications you’ll find this chip processes two x86-64 cores clocked at 2.80 GHz along with Radeon HD 6410D graphics equipped with 160 stream processors and an engine clocked at 600 MHz. The L2 cache size is 512 KB per core. A memory controller supporting dual-channel DDR3-1600 MHz memory is integrated as well as a PCI-Express 2.0 root hub for discrete graphics.
With a rated TDP of 65W, it is expected to reach the market with the price of $65.
