Android Based Sony Walkman ZX1 & F880 Detailed

Sony announces two more additions to the touch-enabled Walkman series after the Sony Walkman F886, announced at IFA 2013, Walkman ZX1 and the value oriented Walkman F880.

The former comes with an 128 GB in-built flash storage while the latter comes in three flavors: the 16 GB flavor if you are on a tight budget, or the 32 GB and the 64 GB flavors if you have got some cash to spare.

Both ZX1 and F880 pack a 4.0 inch LCD display(854×480 pixels – FWVGA), run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and bring a lot of connectivity features like NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and also access to Google’s Play Store. The F880 runs on a dual core 1.0 GHz OMAP4 Cortex-A9 chip, while there is no mention of the ZX1′s processor. However what we do know are the colors. While the ZX1 comes only in black, the F880 will be slightly colorful, being available in black, white, pink and blue.

The Walkmans are essentially competitors of Apple’s iPod touch, but Sony says that they’re also built for high-quality audio. They can both play back lossless audio files like FLAC, which greatly improves the quality compared to the regular MP3 formats. Sony also points out an “advanced” built-in digital amplifier, the’ “S-Master HX” digital amp which can reduce distortion and noise, and that it can even “faithfully” remaster files that include compression, creating an ultimate result that sounds just as the artist intended.

The release date is set for the 19th of October and the starting price for the new Walkman handsets will start at ¥27,000( £170 / $276 ) for the basic model.
