Android Console Obox Slated for 2016 Launch in the UK

Obox, the Chinese Android-powered gaming console, is coming to the UK in 2016, its creator Snail has announced. Snail is better known as the developer of free-to-play MMO Age of Wushu, but has risen to become the fifth-largest mobile network provider in China.

Despite its reveal at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year, Obox is one of the best-kept secrets in gaming at present. Unlike fellow Android gaming platforms Ouya and Gamestick, the size of the Obox console is comparable to the Xbox One.

The Obox also boasts some impressive hardware, packing in an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 4GB RAM, three HDMI ports, WiFi and LAN connectivity, and a whopping 4TB on-board storage. Obox can output 5.1 surround sound, plus 4K and 3D picture. Its Xbox-esque controller doubles up as an air-mouse, while Snail’s W3D phone/console hybrid can be used as an additional gamepad.

Though the price of the console is yet to be announced, the Obox is expected on UK shores early next year.
