Antec HCP Platinum Continuous Power 1000W Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

This is a tricky one, as this is an established unit already, so prices seem to vary wildly. The better end of the spectrum was £129.02 from box.co.uk, but use caution as I’ve seen some retailers listing them for closer to £200. This is a great price, especially since you get great performance and a 7-year warranty with lifetime global 24/7 support.

Conclusion

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that this is a rock solid piece of hardware. The performance is fantastic, providing that you don’t have to spend huge amounts of money, as I think £130 for a 1000W Platinum is pretty reasonable, to drive a high-end workstation, multiple graphics cards and more 24/7. This unit promises continuous and consistent power delivery and as you’ve seen from today’s testing, it didn’t falter one bit on Antec’s promise.

The unit is quite large and I must admit that the multiple rails are a bit old-school for my liking. I haven’t had a PSU that required me to work out the rails for many years, as many new units favour just one single powerful rail. There’s nothing wrong with either method of course, and dependent on your personal preference, you may like this way more than the other, it’s really up to you. That being said, single or multiple rails, it doesn’t change the fact that this unit delivered some of the most consistent voltages I’ve ever seen on a PSU and that’s certainly something worth thinking about when you’re trying to get stable overclocks or running sensitive hardware.

Build quality is typical Antec, by which I mean it’s incredibly durable. The cables are very strong and have a pretty abrasive braiding on them; not what I would call ideal for a gaming build that you want to look pretty, but if you’ve got an open-air test bench, you’ll be grateful for cables that can survive a few bumps and scrapes.

Pros

  • Consistent voltages across multiple loads
  • Durable build quality
  • Quiet performance
  • Excellent OPP
  • Platinum efficiency
  • Low ripple
  • Affordable (relative to power output and efficiency)

Cons

  • None

Neutra

“There are a lot of great PSUs to pick from when looking for a 1000w Platinum unit, but the consistent voltages, low ripple and quiet performance of the Antec HCP make it a fierce contender in a very competitive market.”
