Antec VSP5000 Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

This is the Antec VSP5000’s party trick, it’s price tag! This chassis clocks in at just £39.95 from Overclockers.co.uk, which is incredible value for money given the range of extra on offer. Those in the US can pick up the chassis from Newegg for $71.62.

Overview

Antec has done it again, I’m very impressed with this new chassis and while I admit that it isn’t perfect, it’s certainly got a lot of positive aspects, more so than I would normally attribute to a chassis that falls into this price range. While many love to preach about the benefits of water cooling, some people are more than happy with air cooling, and so they should be, air cooled systems can be competitive, quiet and most importantly, a heck of a lot cheaper than water cooled setups.

This chassis has everything you need for a decent air-cooled system. There’s good clearance for a large tower cooler, but most importantly there are three fan controller switches on the front, which can be taken from low to high, or turned off completely. If you were to wire up a CPU cooler that can run passive with a good quality fan, such as the DeepCool Gamer Storm Lucifer, you could effectively run your computer completely passive, then first up the fans for when you’re wanting to play some games; the best of both worlds.

Build quality is robust throughout, especially for a chassis of this price, but then again it’s overall design is quite simple. The panels are thick and the plastics are chunky and flat, so there’s not exactly an abundance of weak points. I must admit, it is a little bit ugly, it looks a bit cheap, but it’s design is out of function rather than style and I can’t knock Antec too hard for taking a practical approach.

Cable routing space is a little limited behind the motherboard, but the raised side panel and a little extra space in the bottom of the chassis are good enough to handle most cables. Plus, the cable routing doesn’t have to be OCD levels of tidy, as this is an enclosed chassis; so long as your airflow pathways are unobstructed, the aesthetics on the interior are not important here.

Extra touches such as a sound dampening top panel, dust filters on all major intakes, fan controllers, rubber caps on all front panel I/O are also nice things to have.

Pros

  • Affordable price tag
  • Three good quality fans pre-installed
  • Three fan controllers with “off” function
  • Room for large GPU (380mm)

Cons

  • Unattractive design
  • Top panel fans not properly mounted (screws missing)
  • Only one dedicated 2.5″ bays
  • Snap-off expansion slot covers

“The Antec VSP5000 isn’t perfect, but it’s certainly not a bad chassis. It’s affordable, comes with three fans pre-installed, built-in fan controllers and more. If you’re planning a budget friendly and silent system build, this could be the perfect chassis for your build.”

Thank you Antec for providing us with this information.
