AORUS M3 Optical RGB Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look

The AORUS M3 keeps things nice and simple, with a pretty familiar design that follows on from previous generations of Aorus gaming mice. Equipped with a stylish rubber grip coating on the left and right side, it’s unlike to get away from you in the heat of battle.

The scooped out sides make it easy to really dig your thumb in and get a firm grip too. For those playing with palm rest, the design of the mouse fits nicely in the palm of your hand. However, the shape of the sides and those rubber grips also work perfectly for fingertip and claw grip play styles. That’s perfect for multiple types of games, so you can lay back and cruise around in MMO games, or get twitchy in your favourite FPS and still feel comfortable and in control.

Right Handed

This mouse is right-handed only, sorry lefties, but on the plus side, that does mean the ergonomics are very comfortable and dialled in.

The mouse leans off to one side, allowing a more natural wrist position that’s better for those marathon gaming sessions. The mouse buttons are each mounted on their own sprung panel separate from both each other and the mouse chassis. This gives them much better feedback and control for any scenario.

Scooped

Furthermore, both buttons are heavily scooped out, promoting a good finger resting position. Again, this adds more control as your fingers are less likely to deviate from an optimal clicking possition. The scroll wheel is heavily recessed, but it’s quite large and the soft rubber grips make it easy to control without it feeling imposing. Of course, behind that, you’ve got two more switches that are for DPI adjustments. However, the mouse is fully programmable, so you can adjust that as you see fit.

The mouse has a nice weighted and balanced feel to it, without actually being that heavy. With the addition of large Teflon slipmats and a fairly flat and smooth base in general, it glides really well on both soft and hard gaming surfaces.

RGB

The RGB lighting is nice and vivid with really rich and deep colours. It’s compatible with Gigabyte Fusion lighting too, so you can match up your other Aorus hardware to suit your taste. Of course, the software can also be used to reprogram the buttons and macros should you desire, although it is completely optional as the mouse is plug and play friendly.

The optical sensor is fantastic, although admittedly you have to look pretty hard to find a bad mouse these days. The DPI adjustments are visible on the left side of the mouse, with four indicator lights showing your current speed. Again, you can adjust each level in the software. For FPS gaming, the mouse feels pretty tight and responsive even at low DPI. The pixel-perfect performance means a missed headshot is your fault, not the mouse.

Of course, we do more than just game, well some of us do. For working in the office and toying around in Photoshop all day, I found the ergonomics of the M3 RGB to be very forgiving. It’s comfortable to hold, easy to control, and accurate enough for working on detailed graphics work.

Overall, I can’t really fault it, it’s not the first time we’ve loved an Aorus mouse, but they do keep getting better and better!
