Apacer Endurance Gen4 x4 NAS SSD 1TB Review
Apacer has a long history of high-performance and high-quality storage and memory products. While I know them best for their high-end memory kits, it looks like today, we’ll be playing with some more unique. Their new SSD is designed specifically for use in NAS systems. Of course, many of the most popular NAS devices use hard drives, largely due to their lower cost per gigabyte, and massive capacities compared to SSD technology. However, one can not simply ignore the sheer speed of SSD technology and the benefits this may have to your network storage. Suppose you’re dealing with massive video assets (for example) over a high-speed network with multiple users. In that case, the advantages of SSD are obvious: faster loading times and faster file transfers, which means a more productive workflow.
Specifications
The Apacer Endurance NAS SSD boasts impressive specifications geared towards high-performance and network-attached storage. Leveraging a PCIe Gen4 x4 interface and full compliance with the NVMe 1.4 standard, it promises to deliver exceptional speed with sequential read/write speeds reaching up to 5,000MB/s and 4,400MB/s respectively. While you can get faster M.2 drives, the cost goes up drastically, and the heat generation too, so I think Gen4 x4 is a nice sweet spot for NAS. Available in capacities ranging from 512GB to a generous 4TB, the drive also excels in random read/write operations, achieving up to 340,000 IOPS (4K). Features like S.M.A.R.T. and TRIM ensure drive health and sustained performance, while the integrated heat sink design effectively dissipates heat, promoting longevity and consistent operation even under heavy workloads. This combination of performance, capacity, and endurance makes the Apacer Endurance NAS SSD an excellent choice for demanding NAS environments.

Just the other day I did some news on the new QNAP All-Flash 12-Bay TS-h1277AFX NAS powered by a Ryzen 7 9000. That is an absolute beast of a NAS, and can you imagine cramming in a dozen 5000 MB/s SSD in there? Oh my, the file transfer speeds would be biblical if set up a performance focused RAID configuration!
