Apacer Endurance Gen4 x4 NAS SSD 1TB Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Apacer Endurance NAS SSD wasn’t available at our preferred retailers at the time of writing. However, you can find out more information from the Apacer product page here. Of course, I will update you with more information as soon as it becomes available.

Conclusion

The Apacer Endurance NAS SSD delivered strong performance throughout our testing. While not the most extreme drive, it’s not designed to be. It’s the older Gen4, which we know to be a reliable and trusted platform, and that’s what you want from a NAS drive. This makes it a compelling choice for users seeking to upgrade their NAS storage to SSD or for those investing in a new SSD based NAS solution. Its PCIe Gen4 x4 interface provides excellent sequential read speeds, exceeding its advertised specifications in our testing, and solid write speeds that are more than adequate for most NAS applications, even more so compared to the speeds available on HDD technology.

Build Quality

The drive exhibits excellent build quality, with a simple yet robust design. A graphene layer sticker provides effective heat dissipation, contributing to the drive’s overall reliability. Of course, the absence of moving parts, inherent in SSD technology, ensures silent operation, making it ideal for noise-sensitive environments such as recording studios and editing suites.

Read and Write Performance

The drive’s read performance is exceptional, consistently achieving read and write speeds at or above what we expected from a Gen4 M.2 SSD. Write speeds are strong, though slightly below the advertised figures, they remain competitive within the Gen4 SSD category and I don’t doubt that in certain scenarios the drive could reach the rated figures. Furthermore, the drive demonstrates impressive IOPS and low latency, ensuring responsive performance in various applications.

Gaming Performance

While not its primary focus, the Apacer Endurance NAS SSD delivers excellent gaming performance. Its fast read and write speeds contribute to quick load times and will ensure smooth gameplay. The “Extreme High” score in the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Benchmark further validates its gaming capabilities. Tempted to build a RAID NAS for storing all your games? We certainly are for the office, that would be brilliant for our test benches.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking to enhance the performance of your NAS with a reliable and high-speed SSD, the Apacer Endurance NAS SSD is a worthy investment. Its robust build quality, strong performance, and efficient thermal management make it an excellent choice for demanding NAS environments. While the price point is higher per GB than traditional mechanical drives, the benefits in terms of speed more than justify the cost. If you need consistent, high-performance storage for video editing, large file transfers, or other demanding tasks, this SSD will deliver. For those who want to build a high performance all SSD NAS, this drive is a great choice.
