Apex Legends 2.0 in Electronic Arts’ Plans After Denying It for a Long Time

Apex Legends 2.0 in Electronic Arts’ Plans After Denying It for a Long TimeApex Legends is a live service game, and usually, games of this type don’t need a sequel or a major overhaul. Both EA and Respawn Entertainment have confirmed this multiple times in the past. However, it now seems that the plans are changing.
During a recent EA earnings meeting (thanks VGC), CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the huge success of Apex Legends, while admitting that its recent trajectory has fallen short of expectations.
Wilson explained that Apex is one of the best launches of the past decade, with over 200 million active players. However, he noted that the trajectory of the franchise hasn’t gone the way they had hoped.
Apex Legends 2.0 and EA’s Other Plans

In the short- and medium-term, EA’s plan is to continue supporting Apex Legends and develop new content. This will include a more significant update, enhancing the overall experience of the game. However, this won’t become a priority until after the release of the next Battlefield game.
Wilson went on to say that EA and Respawn are planning an even bigger update, something like Apex Legends 2.0. He said, “Sometime on a longer-term time horizon, there will be an even bigger, more meaningful update to that broader game experience. An Apex 2.0, if you will. This will not be the final incarnation of Apex.”
The team remains highly dedicated and continues to invest in the core community, which still includes tens of millions of players. However, EA believes that a bigger update is needed, likely to arrive after the launch of Battlefield. The team is working hard to define this major update.
In the long-term, EA expects to continue expanding the franchise and supporting a competitive community, as well as attracting new players to experience the full potential of Apex Legends.
