Apex Legends Will Shut Down on Nintendo Switch in August 2026
Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment have officially announced the permanent shutdown of Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch. The game’s servers on this platform will go offline on August 4, 2026, a date that also marks the start of Season 30 of the battle royale. This decision affects only the original Switch version. Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch 2, released in August 2025, will continue to operate normally and will keep receiving full support alongside the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions.
Until the shutdown date, Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch will continue to function as usual. Players will still be able to access the game, play matches, and earn rewards without restrictions. Once August 4 arrives, however, the game will no longer be accessible on this specific console, as EA and Respawn shift their focus to newer hardware and current platforms.
What Happens to Apex Legends on Switch After the Shutdown
As part of the closure process, the purchase of Apex Coins on Nintendo Switch will also be disabled on the same day the servers go offline. Despite this, the developers have confirmed that players will not lose their progress or purchased content.
All progression, unlocked cosmetic items, and remaining virtual currency are tied to the player’s EA account, not to the console itself. This means they can be used on other supported platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Digital assets will transfer automatically once players log in with their EA account on another platform, even if they make the switch after August 4, 2026. EA has noted, however, that in some regions local laws require digital currency to be used within 180 days of purchase, something players should keep in mind when managing their remaining Apex Coins before migrating.
