Apple Accidentally Promotes Samsung’s Phone While Working on the Foldable iPhone
Apple‘s China support account accidentally shared an ad for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 just as rumors about Apple’s first foldable iPhone are gaining attention.
Apple made an unexpected blunder just as it prepares for one of the most anticipated launches in its history: its first foldable iPhone. While rumors suggest the device will be unveiled next year alongside the iPhone 18, coinciding with the company’s 20th anniversary, a social media mistake has unintentionally boosted its competition.
From Apple’s official China support account, a promotional video for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 was posted by mistake. Although the post was quickly taken down, the leaker UniverseIce captured and shared it on social media (thanks Wccftech), causing the mistake to go viral and triggering various reactions.
An Awkward Error
Many have wondered how a company like Apple could make such a mistake. The most likely explanation is that Apple and Samsung might share the same advertising agency in China, and the error was due to a slip-up by an employee of that agency.
The timing couldn’t have been worse since Apple is currently working on its first foldable iPhone. Given that no details have been released about the phone yet, promoting its biggest rival in the foldable phone market doesn’t seem like the best move.
This type of mistake has sparked a debate over lack of internal control in social media management and the risks of outsourcing sensitive tasks like official communications. As expected, the incident quickly gained attention on social media. Whether it will affect Samsung or Apple remains to be seen, but it is likely that both companies will reconsider their approach to such posts.
