Apple May Offer Battery Rebate
Apple recently confirmed something that had been suspected for quite some time. That they were deliberately slowing down their older phones. While many felt that this was a cynical step to get people to upgrade, Apple insisted that it was to ensure the long-term survival of the battery.
Despite this, they offered owners of iPhone 6 and above the opportunity to replace their phone’s battery at a big discount. Had you just paid for the replacement before this rolled out, you might have been a little miffed. Well, there might be good news. Apple is considering offering you a rebate.
Battery Replacement
In an attempt to salvage some PR, Apple is indeed offering a nice discount. I can confirm in the UK that the discount makes the replacement cost just £24. I know this because I did it last month. Not bad considering I bought the phone for just £50 the prior month with the knowledge that the battery wasn’t great.
For some though, this discount came too late. You have already paid full price for the replacement (which was about £100). The good news is, in a report via CNN, Apple is currently ‘considering’ offering those consumers a rebate based on the current charge for this service.
Will they offer the discount?
It’s hard to say. If they do offer the rebate, it is obviously going to come with a bunch of terms, conditions and exclusions. It would be a nice gesture to their consumer base. This, particularly for those who had paid for this little weeks, or even days, before the discount was offered.
I suspect that the bottom line will come down to cost vs reputation. If Apple can off-set the cost, why not? It might redeem them in a lot of peoples eyes over this whole incident.
How do I get my discounted battery replacement?
If you haven’t had your battery replacement yet, getting it is simply. All you need to do is visit Apple’s website, start a live chat and book the appointment with your local Apple store. I was able to book my appointing within the same week and the replacement took no longer than about an hour. Since then, my phone which usually only stood a day between charges now lasts about 3-4 days. For just £24, you can grumble at that!
