We knew it was coming, but the day has finally arrived: Apple has unveiled their new Retina-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple released the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro just a few months ago and now we have a shrunken down version for the masses.
Apple’s new 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro sports a display resolution of 2560×1600, matching the resolution found on current 30-inch monitors. The new notebook comes with dual Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.0 ports and on the hardware side of things we find an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage for the base model starting at $1699.
The top end of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro sports a Core i7 processor and bumps the storage up to 768GB. The best thing is obviously the Retina display and its 2560×1600 resolution, but the new 13-inch MBP is also thinner, and lighter than its predecessor. The 2011 13-inch model weighed 4.5 pounds, but the new Retina-toting MBP weighs just 3.57 pounds.
It’s much thinner dropping from 0.95 inches to just 0.75 inches, as you can see below.
