Apple iPad Pro M5 Hints at New 120Hz Studio Display Coming in 2026
According to several sources, Apple is preparing a new Studio Display with a 120Hz refresh rate, optimized for use with the upcoming iPad Pro M5.
Based on the updated specifications of the iPad Pro with the M5 chip, a 120Hz Studio Display could debut in 2026. The new iPad is now capable of handling external monitors up to 120Hz with adaptive synchronization. This means a smoother experience, with significantly lower latency and fewer visual artifacts during gaming or editing tasks. Some reports suggest Apple is developing an updated Studio Display that could include the new A19 Pro chip. Let’s take a closer look.
The Connection Between iPad Pro and External Monitors
What does the iPad Pro have to do with all this? With the latest update, the iPad can now serve as a source for external monitors. It’s the first time an iPad supports 120Hz output, suggesting Apple might be working on a next-generation Studio Display. Until now, Apple’s external monitors have only supported 60Hz. Of course, this doesn’t automatically confirm the existence of a 120Hz monitor, so these rumors should still be taken with caution.
Reports from multiple sources indicate the arrival of a new Studio Display model expected in early 2026. Earlier this year, MacRumors found references in Apple’s code to an external monitor featuring the A19 Pro chip, codenamed J427. The release of this new monitor would align perfectly with the capabilities of the new iPad, which can connect to external displays up to 120Hz with adaptive sync.
While there are no official confirmations yet, the new monitor is expected to feature mini-LED backlighting, which would improve brightness, contrast, and color performance compared to the current LCD panel. Additionally, it is rumored to include ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate technology, matching the experience offered by the MacBook Pro.
