Apple Is Working on a New Feature That Will Let Windows PCs Copy and Paste Content to and From iPhones
Apple is developing a new feature that will let Windows PC users in the European Union copy and paste text and other supported content between an iPhone and a Windows computer. The feature was requested by Microsoft through Apple’s interoperability request system for the EU and is already under development.
The new clipboard feature will allow users to copy text and other compatible content from an iPhone and paste it directly onto a Windows PC, similar to how it already works with Android devices. It will also work in the opposite direction, allowing users to copy content from a Windows PC and paste it onto an iPhone. The process will run in the background, so users will not need to keep the app open in the foreground for copy and paste to work.

To make this possible, Apple will need to give developers the ability to create extensions that can share clipboard content after the user gives permission. Once that permission is granted, both the Windows and iPhone clipboards will be accessible for copying and pasting content.
Apple said the project will require a significant amount of work, so the feature is not expected to be available until fall next year. It will first be released as a beta for developers before becoming available to all users.
For now, the request has only been made through the European Union’s interoperability requirements. Because of this, it is still unclear whether Apple will make the feature available in other regions, although there are no known technical barriers preventing it.
