Earlier this week, more information came out about the supposed MacBook refresh. The key takeaway was that Apple is reportedly planning to ditch USB 3 Type A connectors and go all out on Type-C. Some more information ahs since come out about the refresh for us to share with you.
According to the new source, the new models are set to debut at an October 27th event at Cupertino. This means in less than a week, we may have out hands on new MacBooks, some of which haven’t been refreshed for well over a year. Given the move to only Type-C ports, we may be seeing a new hardware design due to the ability to have a thinner device. As we all know from the iPhone 7, Apple is all about thinness these days.
In terms of expected updates, the new CPUs are likely to be Skylake models as Intel isn’t ready yet with the requisite Kaby Lake chips. AMD has reportedly been chosen to provide the discrete graphics for the MacBook Pros with their Polaris GPUs. Other hardware additions expected are the customizable OLED function key bar and TouchID. It will be interesting to see if these rumors turn out to be true.
