Apple Releases Bug Filled iOS 8.0.1 Update

It hasn’t been the best couple of days for Apple, in what otherwise was supposed to be their time of celebration. The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus were launched and very well received at first. The newest version of the operating system, iOS 8, wasn’t launched as smoothly as it could have been, with users complaining about the download size and a number of bugs. We also heard about the bending issues and that they were targeted by another 4chan hoax. Luckily there weren’t many that fell for the hoax.

Now Apple have released the first update to the new iOS, version 8.0.1. This update was supposed to fix the previous mentioned bugs in the new operating system. While it sure does that, it also introduces a whole list of new bugs. So you might want to hold off updating your new iPhone just yet.

Users started to report trouble on Twitter almost instantly after the update was released. The reports tell us that the update is breaking the cellular reception and other features like the Apple Touch ID. The good old tricks for reception trouble is to just power the devices down and back up, or the simpler option to toggle into flight mode and back, but they don’t seem to have any effect. People are stuck with a phone that can not make any calls, and they aren’t happy. Some things can’t be changed though, so it’s good to see some people just taking a humorous approach to the issue.

The update does fix some things as mentioned, mainly that the HealthKit apps can now be made available in the App-store. But also trouble with third party keyboards, the photo library and SMS/MMS services have been fixed among others.

iOS 8.0.1 Changelog:

  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
