Apple’s A20 Pro Chip Is Faster Than Some MacBook Air Models
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro this week, which will be powered by the A20 Pro chip, the company’s first 2-nanometer chip. As expected, the first results have already appeared, and its numbers have surprised.
Apple’s new chip has set a new record in Geekbench 6, becoming the fastest mobile chip on the market. In fact, the result is surprising because it has even managed to compete with Apple’s M-series processors, such as the M3.
Apple A20 Pro Outperforms Some MacBook Air Chips in Geekbench 6
This result is surprising, especially because the A20 Pro shares the same cores as the A19 Pro. However, the fact that the chip was made using a 2 nm process would explain why it has improved so much. More specifically, it offers up to 24.5% more performance in single-core tasks and 26.9% more in multi-core tasks.
But, as we said, what is surprising is that it is able to compete with the range of SoCs made for laptops such as the MacBook Air. In fact, it not only beats the M3 chip, but is even able to perform up to 10% better than the M5 Max chip, found in MacBook Pro models, in single-threaded tasks. But, as expected, the difference is huge in favor of the laptop chips when we talk about multi-threaded tasks.
Of course, we have to keep in mind that these are results taken from a benchmark. In fact, neither Geekbench 6 nor Geekbench 7 is designed to test sustained workloads. Even so, the result achieved by Apple’s chip is still equally impressive.
Now it remains to be seen what results the A20 Pro achieves in benchmarks focused on graphics, as it is the first iPhone chipset to feature a 7-core GPU.
