ASRock AM5 Motherboards May Damage CPUs Without BIOS Update
Having an ASRock AM5 motherboard could be risky for your components if you haven’t updated its BIOS version.
A User Reports His Ryzen 7 7800X3D Was Burned on an ASRock AM5 Motherboard
In recent months, several users have reported that their processors were burned out. In fact, AMD and ASRock have been involved in some of these cases, although the models were different from today’s incident.
While most cases affected AMD’s 9000 series processors, this time it was the 7000 series. A user on Reddit shared a photo showing how his AMD Ryzen 7800X3D got damaged on an ASRock AM5 motherboard, which also showed burn marks around the socket.
The user shared his story because he hadn’t seen similar cases affecting his CPU before. An ASRock support representative replied and advised him to request an RMA, so this situation might have a “happy ending” for him.
ASRock and UNIKO Urge Users to Update Their BIOS
UNIKO’s Hardware used this case to warn all ASRock AM5 motherboard owners. They recommended updating to the latest BIOS version, which for the 800 series is version 3.50.
An interesting point is that UNIKO mentioned the issue is extremely rare and similar to what was seen with AMD’s 9000 series. However, they had never observed this happening with a 7000 series CPU and an 800 series motherboard. They believe it’s not related to PBO settings, but still urge users to update their BIOS as a preventive measure.
