ASRock Leak Confirms Custom Radeon RX 6400 GPUs Are Coming!

When it was released earlier this year, were you excited about the AMD Radeon RX 6400? – If the answer was no, then don’t worry, because you’re not alone here. Given the woefully lacklustre performance of the 6500 XT, this even lower-tier model was undoubtedly not going to garner much attention from either the media or consumers. A key reason perhaps why AMD never made much of a song or dance about its arrival.

Ever since then, however, there have been more than a few indications suggesting that, whether we really wanted them or not, custom AIB models were on the way. And following a report via Videocardz, it appears that ASRock may be one of the first to get their Radeon RX 6400 GPUs out the gate!

ASRock Custom Radeon RX 6400 Graphics Cards

Officially speaking, the launch of the Radeon RX 6400 has been a little bit messy and, more so, moderately confusing. This is predominantly due to the fact that up until now they have only been made available to OEM partners (in other words, to be included within pre-built systems). With a general consumer release expected on April 20th, however, these leaked images from ASRock all but confirm that custom models are on the way.

In terms of the models, what we appear to have is a relatively low-profile compact design. Something that would seem to suggest that the 6400 is predominantly going to be targeted toward compact systems. – In some new pieces of information, however, there is a key factor of note with these ASRock models. Namely, they do not appear to have any requirement for a dedicated power source. This means, at least in theory, that its power requirements can easily be met merely by that supplied from the PCIe port on the motherboard.

What Do We Think?

By and large, the biggest question surrounding this is whether there is any point for custom partners such as ASRock to even bother releasing their own variants. – Unless they are priced below £100, which given the current climate I have my doubts about, I just can’t see that there is any kind of real consumer demand for this GPU let alone custom models!

It’s just my opinion, but it seemed to make way more sense to keep the Radeon RX 6400 limited to OEM partners for budget-focused builds. Like it or not though, custom models do appear to be hitting retailers in the very near future. It just makes you wonder though if there’s really any point to it!
