Assassin’s Creed Unity Could Be the Next Ubisoft Game to Get a 60 FPS Patch
For some time now, Ubisoft has been updating older games in its catalog by releasing patches that raise the frame rate to 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. These updates do not follow a fixed schedule, but they clearly aim to give new life to past titles.
Recently, Ubisoft confirmed 60 FPS updates for Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal. According to a new report, the next game to receive similar treatment could be Assassin’s Creed Unity, originally released in 2014 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The information comes from industry insider Tom Henderson, who mentioned it during a recent Insider Gaming podcast focused on Ubisoft’s future plans.
A Rumor That Makes Sense
As always, rumors like this should be taken with caution. That said, the idea is far from surprising. Several older Assassin’s Creed titles have already received 60 FPS updates. Assassin’s Creed Origins got its patch in 2022, while Assassin’s Creed Syndicate followed in 2024.
Given this trend, updating Assassin’s Creed Unity would fit well with Ubisoft’s current strategy of refreshing its back catalog for modern consoles.
On Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed Unity already runs at 60 FPS thanks to Microsoft’s FPS Boost feature, without any direct action from Ubisoft. However, this is not the case on PS5, where the game is still locked at 30 FPS.
An official patch from Ubisoft would allow the frame rate to be unlocked on PS5 as well, offering a smoother experience across all current-generation consoles. If confirmed, this update would be a welcome improvement for players who want to revisit the game under better technical conditions.
In other news, Ubisoft announced a massive internal restructuring and cost-cutting plan that is expected to result in thousands of job losses by 2028.
