At IDF 2013 ASUS just officially unveiled its Transformer Book T100. This offering from ASUS will apparently cost only $349 but has a solid feature set that will kick most other Windows (RT) tablets and notebooks into the distance. The Transformer Book T100 sports a 10.1 inch capacitive touch display with a 1366 by 768 resolution and IPS panel. The tablet will run fully fledged Windows 8.1 as it uses Intel’s new Bay Trail Atom Z3740 quad core processor which can provide up to 11 hours of battery life. asus_transformer_book_t100_2

The device can be used as a standalone tablet or a notebook. It weighs in at just 2.4 lbs as a notebook and at 1.2 lbs as a standalone tablet. The Transformer Book T100 uses 2GB of memory and has 32GB of internal storage, upgradeable to 64GB for an additional $50 over the $349 price. It boasts micro USB, micro HDMI, micro SD and full sized USB 3.0 connectivity (the full sized USB 3.0 port is on the keyboard dock). The Transformer Book T100 features Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 with full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.

ASUS will also launch the Transformer Book T300 later which is a larger 13.3 inch variant of the same product running an improved 1920 x 1080 IPS display and fourth generation Intel Haswell mobile processor. Of course this will be a much more expensive tablet.
