2560 by 1080 monitors are an interesting new take on the monitor market. They are being developed as a cost-effective compromise between more expensive 2560 by 1600/1440 panels and cheaper 1920 by 1080 panels. Most display companies have already produced their own versions and now ASUS joins the party. Its Designo Series MX299Q Ultrawide 21:9 “Cinematic” monitor features a 29 inch size panel (that’s 29 inches top right to bottom left) and a 21:9 aspect ratio stemming from the 2560 by 1080 resolution.
ASUS have equipped an AH-IPS panel with 178 degree viewing angles. Furthermore ASUS have gone further than most on the audio developing “SonicMaster audio”, co-developed with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, for the in built 3W stereo speakers. The contrast ratio is dynamic and 80 million to one while the brightness is 300cd/m². The display features six operation modes Standard/ sRGB/ Scenery/ Theater/ Game/ Night view. Connectivity is DisplayPort, Dual-Link DVI and HDMI/MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link). The bezel frame measure in at just 0.8mm.
Pricing and availability is still to be announced.
