ASUS DSL-AC88U AC3100 Modem Router Review

Interface: Quality of Service, Traffic Monitoring, and VPN

The ASUS DSL-AC88U router also allows you to shape and monitor the traffic. VPN server and client functionality is also part of the package.

Traffic Manager

The traffic manager is a simple QoS service. It is built with an upload bandwidth limiter and the default settings prioritise online gaming and surfing the highest to prevent P2P systems such as download clients from stealing your bandwidth. Custom rules can also be created for specific systems or network applications.

Traffic Monitor

Keeping an eye on your traffic is an important feature, especially if you experience traffic issues. The monitor will allow you to see whether a possible bottleneck is at your end or remotely.

There are graphs for the various DSL connections as well as wired WAN, LAN and wireless channels.

VPN Server

Private connections aren’t a rarity anymore, and a router needs to support VPN. Especially in this category.

VPN Client

A VPN client feature is at least as important as a VPN server feature, and we’re not disappointed.

  1. great review , would have like to have seen some elements on its dsl connectivity and performance as the dsl-ac88u is aimed at the dsl market as otherwise you would buy the rt-ac3100 which would pretty much give you the same performance

being broadcom based modem the theory is it should be stable and perform well on poor dsl lines but im guessing only time in the wild will confirm this or not

    cheers

    1. Yes, that’s true. Unfortunately, DSL is a thing that’s history where I live and Fibre has become the norm.

However, from what I’ve heard, it does deliver a more stable DSL connection than other routers. It does feature the latest technology in the field, so it’s a fair assumption.
