Asus Believe GPU Prices Will Cause Spike In Gaming Laptop Sales

Asus

When it comes to gaming laptops, Asus is certainly one of the market leaders. The company has, however, made an interesting announcement that I hadn’t considered before. One of which I have to admit has given me an interesting thing to consider.

Put simply, they believe that the GPU price crunch will drive customers away from their desktops and into laptop gaming.

GPU Prices

It’s no secret that GPU prices have gone up quite considerably in the last year. We recently wrote a very popular article highlighting just how much some of the more popular GPU’s had actually increased.

The demand, caused by cryptocurrency mining, has seen even Nvidia make an announcement that they are doing the best they can to meet demand levels.

The question is then, based on this, is Asus right? Will GPU prices create more gaming laptop sales?

An interesting question!

Truthfully, I really do find that a fascinating point. One of which I hadn’t considered.

GPU’s are expensive. Therefore building your own mid to upper system today will cost you at least £200-£300 more than it would have 12 months ago. Why, therefore, not just consider going down the gaming laptop route? I mean, I know why I personally wouldn’t, but if desktop prices are starting to fall into line with laptops, why not go down the portable route?

In a report via PCGamesN, Asus believes the demand will grow so much that they expect to sell 500,000 more gaming laptops in 2018 than they did in 2017.

Are they right?

Only time will tell, but as above, I appreciate them bringing it up. It certainly makes me consider if they have a point in this and to a degree, with some reservations, I think they might.

What do you think? Will laptop sales go up this year? Is it due to desktop GPU prices? – Let us know in the comments!
