ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB Graphics Card Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

In the UK the ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC sells for £119.99 / £131.99 whereas most other GTX 750 Ti graphics cards start at £104.99-£109.99. In the USA it sells for $169.99 which is above other GTX 750 Tis that start at $155-160. The ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC has a three year warranty.

Overview

The ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC graphics card is a mixed bag in my opinion. Let’s first start off with the positives of which there are quite a few. The most obvious are that the ASUS cooler is significantly quieter than the reference design and a fair amount cooler, that is with a factory overclock as well. Other positives include the aesthetics of the ASUS card are much more “gamer-friendly” than the crappy looking reference design. ASUS also did a good job to flesh the rear I/O out a bit more and add a PCI 6 pin power connector for additional stability and a bit of extra juice should you overclock the card further than its out-of-the-box overclocks. Finally, ASUS include power delivery components which are better than reference design which is also a big plus.

However, there are a lot of things I am less excited about. Firstly, while the cooling solution is better and quieter than reference, it is still fairly basic. ASUS have made a mistake in my opinion by not including heat pipes as a few other vendors do offer heat pipe based coolers that perform dramatically better. I suppose this can be overlooked because the GTX 750 Ti never really gets that hot – having it run at 65-70 degrees has no negative implications over a rival product that runs at 55-60. However, to me it just seems unlike ASUS to do this kind of thing as they normally always go for maximum cooling performance and maximum cooler quality. Secondly, the location of the PCI Express 6 pin is not sensisble. I don’t know what the logic was behind placing the connector there but I think they really need to get that connector relocated on future products, it is very difficult for cable management. Finally, I’m not satisfied with the premium ASUS charge over the base price and what other vendors offer. Given the fact they’ve opted for a lower cost cooling solution I don’t think it’s fair that they charge a premium over other vendor designs that are also overclocked (often by more) and with better cooling solutions. In the UK and the USA I can see several GTX 750 Ti graphics cards from rival vendors that have better coolers, higher overclocks and a similar, or even a lower, price.

In summary the ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC is a dramatic improvement over the reference design and worth considering but the competition is fierce and I think ASUS could benefit from more competitive pricing. However, consumers who have come to know and trust ASUS products will still find this product a good buy.

Pros

  • Cooler and quieter than the reference design
  • Improved aesthetics
  • High quality power components

Cons

  • Lack of heatpipes on the cooling solution
  • Awkwardly placed power connector
  • Price premium feels unjustified

“The ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC graphics card offers up better than reference cooling and noise levels thanks to the custom dual fan cooler. The performance is also slightly better thanks to a factory overclock. However, the ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC isn’t polished to the usual standards I’ve come to expect from ASUS.

Thank you to ASUS for providing this review sample.
