ASUS Joins MSI in Relaunching the Nvidia GT 730 Graphics Card

With graphics card supply levels being so poor at the moment, this hasn’t just been a frustrating time for gaming consumers, but also those who are simply looking for any sort of dedicated graphics adaptor. Put simply, not all people need or require a gaming GPU, but with the way things are at the moment, even dated second-hand models are carrying a significantly inflated price tag.

In providing something of a solution to this problem, however, we have heard many rumours over the last 6 months that graphics card manufacturers have been considering relaunching older-gen products in order to have at least something available on the market. In a move that has seemingly taken its lead from MSI earlier this year, however, following a report via TechSpot it would appear that ASUS has also decided to give the 7-year-old Nvidia GeForce GT 730 a fresh run on the market!

ASUS Relaunches the GeForce GT 730

Given the age and outdated status of the GeForce GT 730, this is clearly not a relaunch that will excite the flames of gaming consumers out there. Making this graphics card available again in decent quantities, however, does make a lot of sense. As noted above, there are many people, and particularly manufacturers, who are absolutely desperate not for a ‘good’ GPU, but just anything they can slap in a system and hook up to a display.

Given that the GeForce GT 730 is so dated, ASUS’ decision to relaunch it does come with a number of significant perks too. Not only does this move allow them to shift a lot of effectively redundant technology, but they can do so at a time where it would likely command a notable higher price than under normal circumstances. And, not to mention, the fact that stock and scalpers will not be an issue here!

Don’t get us wrong, the ‘new’ GT 730 isn’t going to be expensive, but it’s probably going to cost about the same now as it did when it was originally released 7 years ago. Or, perhaps, and taking inflation into consideration, a little bit more towards the $100 mark. The bottom line though is that this is going to be both available and affordable. And you can’t say that about many other graphics card products at the moment, can you?…

What Do We Think?

Given the inexpensive nature of this graphics card, and by proxy the fact that a lot of manufacturers will be interested in this GPU just because it’s a dedicated GPU that’s both available and ‘good enough’, these moves by both ASUS and MSI are likely going to be proven to be very sound decisions. – On a more gaming level, however, there has been talk that many AIB partners have been considering relaunching the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti, and, if this does happen, that would undoubtedly be a very interesting proposition for people looking for strong performance on restricted budgets. Yes, the cracks have started to appear in this former GPU giant, but in terms of modern gaming, it still more than holds its own and particularly so in the exceptionally popular remits of 1080p gaming!

For the moment, however, if you want a cheap graphics solution, it seems that the GeForce GT 730 might be your best solution! Will others decide to join ASUS and MSI in this move though? We’ll have to wait and see!

What do you think? Do you think moves such as this can help solve the current graphics card shortage problem? If so, which model (from either AMD or Nvidia) would you most like to see relaunched on the market? – Let us know in the comments!
