Asus planning dual 580 graphics card

Asus has been designing and developing a dual GTX 580 video card that will feature two full GF110 graphics processors unlike the GTX 590 which contains slightly cut down versions of these chips.

As a result of the massive power requirements the card will be equipped with a 19 phase VRM and super alloy power technology. The card will be cooled using the direct CU II technology which is expected to make the card consume 3 PCI-E slots worth of space. More news won’t be available until Computex 2011 at Taiwan in June.

In addition to the dual 580 card Asus is also planning a GTX 580 Matrix edition video card. This card will come in factory default and factory overclocked versions. Both of these cards will also feature the 19 phase VRM and super alloy power technology.

The specs for the Matrix GTX 580:

  • 512 CUDA cores
  • Core clock of 782MHz for the standard version or 816MHz for the Platinum
  • 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 4008MHz on a 384 bit interface

The matrix edition in essence will be the cream of the crop of GTX 580 cards.

The key things about these two new products are improved direct CU cooling from Asus which is growing in size from 2 Slots to 3 slots (we also first saw this 3 Slot video card on the HD 6950 Direct CU II). And new higher quality power delivery systems and components to increase overclocking capabilities and allow the GPU’s to run cooler and more efficiently. In addition to this they have voltage check points for precise monitoring which can be combined with the GPU Tweak UI interface provided with the cards.
