ASUS Reopens Its Website in Germany But Removes Laptops and Desktops After Nokia Patent Ruling
After a German court ruled in favor of Nokia in a patent case related to video encoding and decoding technologies using the H.265 (HEVC) codec, two of the world’s largest laptop makers, ASUS and Acer, were forced to stop selling the affected laptops and desktop PCs in Germany.
As a result, both companies closed their websites and online stores in the country. ASUS confirmed this in a statement, explaining that all after-sales services would remain active, but its online store and website would be temporarily closed in Germany.
ASUS Website Back Online Without Laptops and Desktops
Now, just one week later, ASUS has reopened its German website, asus.de, including its online store webshop.asus.com/de. However, all laptops and desktop PCs involved in the court ruling and patent dispute with Nokia have been removed from sale. This means that all of the company’s laptops and desktops are no longer available on the website or in the online store.
Acer, on the other hand, has not yet reactivated its website. At the time of writing, it remains “under maintenance”. This makes it more difficult for customers to access certain support services, such as driver downloads.
