Final Thoughts

How Much Does it Cost?

Right now, you can pick up the ASUS TUF Gaming M5 RGB Gaming Mouse for around £36. That’s a pretty great deal, although I suspect it could be a sale as I’ve seen it going for up to £48 at some retailers. Of course, the best thing to do is to shop around for the best price; obviously.

Overview

TUF gaming hardware is certainly a tempting option for many system builders and gamers. It’s quite often some of the most competitively priced hardware, yet built to a very high standard. The same holds true for the M5 ergonomic gaming mouse. It’s nothing too fancy, but what little it has, has been crafted with care to make it practical, stylish, and durable throughout.

Performance

It’s not the highest specification mouse in the world, and at this price, I wouldn’t expect it to be. However, it’s way more than enough even for many pro gamers. The 6200 DPI sensor has a fantastic maximum tracking speed of 220 IPS, and it is unlikely to ever miss a beat. More so, it can be dialled all the way down to 100 DPI for extreme precision when you need it. This is backed up by fantastic Omron switches and six fully programmable buttons for surprising flexibility from such a compact mouse.

Ambidextrous?

In terms of pure ergonomics, sure, you can hold it as comfortably in your left hand as you could your right. It works fantastic for palm rest grip if you have smaller hands or for younger gamers. However, it’s best suited to fingertip and clawgrip gamers most of all. However, I really would have liked to see mirrored side buttons on the right, as with left-handed use, you can’t really use the side buttons on the wrong side. Hopefully, they fix this in the next model, or even just stop saying it’s ambidextrous. It’s not a deal breaker for me, as I’m right handed really, and at this price, it’s still a competent option for many gamers.

Should I Buy One?

Other than the ambiguous ambidextrous claims, the M5 is a rock solid performer. The sensor is fantastic, the ergonomics feel great, and overall, I think it’s a pretty fantastic looking product too. There’s not too much flash and flair here, but it works really well, and it’ll be kind to your wallet too!
