The hard drive manufacturer Seagate has claimed that the average size of shipped hard drives to consumers rose from 425GB to 590GB which is a rise of 39% based on the same time last year. Seagate’s CEO also stated that total demand for hard drive storage within the industry was a huge 330,000 PB (Petabytes) which amounts to a mind boggling 346,030,080,000GB
Seagate also claims to have shipped 52 million hard drive units in the past quarter with a combined total of 29,000PB while the yearly output has reached 199 million units so far. Seagate has reported a revenue of $2.9 billion for this quarter with a net income of $119 million. Western Digital exceeded Seagate’s shipment figures by around 2 million units, and reported in a lower revenue of $2.4 billion but a higher net income of $193 billion.
