AWS Outage Causes Global Disruptions: Canva, Snapchat, Clash Royale, Fortnite, and More Affected

In the past hour, thousands of reports have emerged about major online service outages worldwide. Several platforms — including Canva and Perplexity — and popular games such as Fortnite, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and Roblox have been affected.

After the main issue was identified, many services began gradually returning to normal. However, disruptions are still ongoing in some regions.

AWS at the Center of the Problem

According to Downdetector, there has been a sudden surge in error reports for countless websites and applications. Although the exact cause is still under review, the problem appears to stem from Amazon Web Services (AWS), a major cloud computing provider that supports numerous platforms and games.

Many users have reported issues with Canva, Snapchat, Perplexity, Roblox, Clash Royale, and other apps. In the United States, the situation has been even more serious, with tens of thousands of reports affecting a wide range of online services. Updates from health.aws.amazon.com confirmed that engineers were working on fixing increased error rates and latency in AWS’s US-EAST-1 region, where a significant portion of global traffic is handled.

Root Cause and Recovery Process

Based on the latest internal findings, the outage was linked to a DNS resolution problem affecting the DynamoDB API endpoint in the US-EAST-1 region. This issue also disrupted other AWS services and global features that depend on that region, including identity management and database operations.

AWS engineers have been actively mitigating the issue and restoring normal service levels. While progress has been made, some users may continue to experience temporary interruptions as systems stabilize.

The situation is improving, and most services are gradually returning to full functionality. More information will be shared as it becomes available. Users who still encounter issues are encouraged to report them and monitor the AWS health dashboard for updates.
