Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Feared Game Would Be Too Short Despite 100-Hour Playtime

Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke expressed concerns that the game might be too short, even though it offers over 100 hours of gameplay. In a recent interview, Vincke revealed his initial worry, saying, “I was afraid the game was going to be too short originally, but I’ve notoriously always been very bad at judging the length of our games.” His fear led Larian Studios to plan additional regions that were later cut from the final version.

The Cut Content

One of the most significant cuts was the second Moonrise Tower, which was initially intended to be part of the game’s vast world. Vincke explained, “Moonrise Tower used to be two towers… The reason we removed the extra tower was purely productional: It was just the game was getting too big, and so we had to cut that out.” This decision was part of a broader effort to prevent the game from becoming overwhelming.

Despite these cuts, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been praised for its massive scope and replayability. Vincke’s concerns echo those of Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, who also misjudged the length of his game. However, both games have been celebrated for their depth and expansive worlds.
