Battlefield 4 Will Support Direct X 11.1 API, Could Give AMD An Advantage

Battlefield 4 will reportedly support the Direct X 11.1 API which is currently a Windows 8 exclusive feature, according to DICE speaking to DSOGaming.

“We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in tothe the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1. This will be in BF4” said Johan Anderson, Technical Director, Frostbite, DICE.

This means that Direct X 11.1 compliant video cards using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 will be able to offer a better visual experience than other systems. Furthermore with AMD having 100% compatible Direct X 11.1 GPUs they could pull an advantage over Nvidia who do not have true Direct X 11.1 support.

Battlefield 4 won’t support Direct X 11.2, which is an exclusive Windows 8.1 feature, but it will be optimised for Windows 8(.1). We wonder why EA and DICE have opted for Direct X 11.1 implementation when no other game developers have really adopted it yet, some have suggested Microsoft may be “sponsoring” EA and DICE to implement the relatively new DirectX API.
