According to Electronic Arts, Battlefield 6 is the best-selling shooter of the year. The statement appeared on the official game website with the message: “THANK YOU FOR MAKING BATTLEFIELD 6 THE BEST SELLING SHOOTER GAME OF THE YEAR.”
Is It Just Marketing?
It’s important to note that Electronic Arts is the game’s publisher, and the claim isn’t backed by any sales numbers. There’s no mention of specific platforms either, so we don’t know where the game sold better or worse.
Clearly, the statement seems meant to support the early sales results of DICE’s new title, as well as to contrast Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest installment from Activision, which appears to have slowed down compared to past entries — especially on Steam and in UK retail stores.
Even though Call of Duty still debuted at the top of the UK charts, Battlefield 6 might have surpassed it in total sales according to EA.
For now, we can only take EA’s word for it, since there are no verified sales figures for either game. Still, Battlefield 6 has had a strong launch, with full servers and positive reactions from both critics and players.
Both games are currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
In other news, Battlefield Redsec, the free-to-play battle royale mode for Battlefield 6, is facing review bombing, not primarily because of its gameplay, but due to its controversial integration with the main game’s progression system.
