Battlefield 6 Lost Nearly 90% of Its Players on Steam Since Launch

Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 had the best debut in the history of the franchise on Steam, reaching a peak of 747,440 concurrent players when it launched on October 10, 2025. However, just a few months later, the game is struggling to hit even 100,000 players on weekends. On Friday, January 9, the player count dropped to a new low of only 30,955.

It’s normal for big game releases to lose players once the initial excitement fades. But the sharp decline in Battlefield 6’s player base has caught attention — the graph from SteamDB shows a steep and consistent drop since launch. After peaking again briefly at the end of October and early November, the numbers continued to fall, leaving the game with almost 90% fewer players now compared to its launch month.

It’s worth noting that these figures only represent the Steam platform and may not fully reflect the game’s performance on consoles.

Mixed Player Reviews Reflect Disappointment

The drop in player numbers seems to be more than just the natural decline after a major release. Recent reviews on Steam tell a different story — while Battlefield 6’s overall rating remains “Mostly Positive,” recent reviews have slipped to “Mixed.”

The most common complaints include the large number of bugs still present in the game. Some players have also criticized the use of AI-generated images, saying it feels out of place for a full-priced game costing $69.99.

There are also concerns about the lack of new content. According to reports from NotebookCheck, many players are frustrated that new updates or maps have not arrived yet. The second season of Battlefield 6 is expected to launch later this month, and fans are hopeful it will help bring players back.

In related news, estimates suggest Battlefield 6 has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
