Battlefield 6 Under Fire for Alleged Use of AI-Generated Images Despite Developers’ Assurances
Battlefield 6 is facing strong criticism for the suspected use of artificial intelligence to create some of the game’s visual materials.
The controversy started on the Reddit page dedicated to the shooter, where users noticed that the “Winter Warning” sticker, part of a premium bundle, appears to have been made using AI.
A Sticker Mistake Sparks the Debate
The image in question shows a soldier holding an M4A1 rifle. However, the rifle in the sticker has two barrels instead of one — a clear mistake often seen in AI-generated images, where the algorithm struggles with complex objects.
This discovery triggered a heated discussion: some players oppose the use of AI in any part of game development, while others are upset because the questionable item is part of a paid bundle.
Before Battlefield 6 was released, Rebecka Coutaz, VP and General Manager of DICE and Criterion (two of the four teams in Battlefield Studios), told the BBC that AI was used only during early development “to allow more time and more space to be creative.” She also promised that players would not see any AI-created content in the final game — a promise that now seems to have been broken.
As of now, Battlefield Studios have not made any official comment on the issue.
In other news, estimates suggest that Battlefield 6 sales have surpassed 20 million, with analysts calling it a major win for Electronic Arts ahead of its $55 billion acquisition.
