BBC Re-Launches Total War-Powered Game Show

BBC game show Time Commanders, which used a Total War-inspired game engine to allow competitors to re-enact historic battles, is returning for a third series after an eleven-year absence. The show would pit would-be commanders – usually a team of four, with two leaders and two lieutenants – against some of the greatest generals in history, all via a modified version of real-time military strategy game Rome: Total War, made especially for the show by Creative Assembly. The show ran from 2003 to 2005 on BBC Two, hosted by Eddie Mair in its first series and Richard Hammond during its second.

The third series of Time Commanders – made for BBC Four by Lion Television – shakes up the format; instead of one team taking on an AI-controlled opponent, the new iteration of the game pits two teams of three people against each other, taking opposing sides in historic battles.

The BBC has put out a casting call for prospective contestants for the new series:

Age limit: Applicants must be aged 18 years of age and over.
