be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX Case Review

Exterior

The be quiet! 500 DX was and still is one seriously kick-ass PC case, and at first glance, it’s hard to see much has changed in the 500 FX. That’s ok though, this is still a 500-series, but FX obviously standing for effects when it comes to the new RGB integration! The front panel remains that same double grille of ventilation, which is going to deliver big airflow to your build.

Down the left side, there are four large aluminium screws in each corner, mounting the full side panel of tempered glass. The glass is crystal clear too, giving you a very easy view of the case interior, so that should light up really well when we power up the build.

The right side panel is just a solid steel panel, but it’s flush mounted, has rear-fitted screws and looks pretty presentable overall.

Around the back, it’s business as usual for an ATX case, with a 120/140mm fan mount at the top, seven expansion slots covers, and an ATX PSU mount towards the bottom of the case. The expansion slot covers are nicely made, and all of them are metal, and fully reusable; none of those cheap snap-off ones are to be found here!

The top of the case looks stunning, with a massive dust filter recessed into the top. That’s not uncommon, but I like that be quiet! went the extra step with a custom cover design that has their logo, not just the generic ones most case brands tend to use.

Below that cover, you’ll find a bank of 120/140mm fan mounts, should you wish to expand on your cooling. Of course, even without additional fans, the passive heat exhaust from this area is still going to be beneficial anyway.

The front I/O panel is nice enough, and I like that be quiet! has blacked out all of the ports, as it just looks neater and tidier. All the usual stuff is here though, with Type C, power controls, etc. There’s no reset button, but instead, you get an RGB control button, which is always handy.
