Bend Studio PlayStation to Lay Off 30% of Its Staff After Cancelling a Game
The video game industry has its fair share of successes and failures, and many development teams are facing various challenges. One of the most significant struggles is the layoff of staff members, and the latest company to face this issue is Bend Studio, a team under PlayStation Studios.
Bend Studio is known for creating Days Gone, an open-world post-apocalyptic shooter that, despite its ambitious design, didn’t achieve the level of success needed to turn it into a long-running series.
Bend Studio’s Layoffs
The news comes from Jason Schreier, a well-known journalist for Bloomberg and an insider who frequently shares behind-the-scenes information about the gaming industry.
Schreier shared the information through Bluesky, writing: “Sony’s Bend studio, which canceled a live-service game earlier this year, is laying off 30% of staff today (around 40 people), Bloomberg News has learned. The studio has been spinning up a new project following the cancellation.”
As reported, Bend Studio, which has around 120 employees, will see about 40 of them leave. This is undoubtedly a difficult situation, and it remains to be seen what kind of project the remaining workers will be working on. It may take years before it is ready, assuming it even makes it to the finish line this time.
