Good gaming monitors are just pouring in lately, but we’re not talking about a 4K offering this time around. BenQ has recently unveiled its XR3501 model – a 35-inch curved, cinematic monitor that is officially recommended for motorsport games such as Grid 2 or Project CARS. The product flaunts a resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels and comes with a response time of 4 ms and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Its maximum brightness sits at 300 cd/m² while its static contrast ratio is 2000:1. As far as viewing angles are concerned, 178°/178° should satisfy the needs of most gamers.
The monitor sits on a chrome stand that supports vertical tilting by 15°. Available inputs include a pair of HDMI 1.4 ports, a mini-DisplayPort, DisplayPort 1.2 and an analog audio input. The XR3501 features three game mode presents and is expected to become available for purchase in 2015. Curved gaming monitors are certainly interesting, especially when we’re talking about a relatively large diagonal of 35 inches. However, the 1080p vertical resolution of the BenQ XR3501 might be considered a drawback by some enthusiasts, not to mention the lack of FreeSync or GSync.
