Best FPS Gaming Mouse Buying Guide 2022

Corsair Nightsword RGB

Corsair may have one of the oldest products on this list, but despite being almost 4 years old, the Nightsword RGB is still a very competitive gaming mouse. It’s a little heavier at 115 grams, but can be tuned up to 137 grams with its included weights. However, it still has a competitive PWM3371 18,000 DPI optical sensor that can be tuned in 1 DP increments. What sets this one apart is the 10-button design, which includes a left-side sniper button and wing design that’s going to give you some unique advantages while you’re gaming.

Features

  • Smart Tunable Weight System: CORSAIR-exclusive software automatically detects the mouse’s centre of gravity in real-time, allowing you to adjust weight between 119g and 141g and fine-tune balance to perfectly fit your grip.
  • CORSAIR’S Most Advanced Optical Sensor Yet: A custom Pixart PMW3391 native 18,000 DPI optical sensor, adjustable in 1 DPI resolution steps, gives you total sensitivity customization and ultra-accurate tracking.
  • Professional Comfort: Built with a contoured shape that naturally fits your hand, with high-performance rubber grips inspired by pro sports equipment.
  • Ten Fully Programmable Buttons: Customize your gaming with the in-game advantage of powerful macros and key remaps.
  • Precise Weight Calibration: Two sets of weights and six mounting locations offer 120 different weight and balance configurations.
  • Ultra-Durable Omron Switches: Rated for more than 50 million clicks.
  • Dynamic, Four-Zone RGB Backlighting: Choose from dozens of presets and effects with near-limitless customization.
  • Intelligent Control, Unlimited Possibilities: Powerful CORSAIR iCUE software enables real-time smart weight tuning, dynamic RGB lighting control, sophisticated macro programming and full-system lighting synchronization, compatible with both Windows and macOS.
  • Onboard Profile Storage: Take your settings to any PC with hardware macro playback and lighting control.
  • Surface Calibration Utility: Automatically tailor your mouse’s responsiveness and precision based on your individual playing surface

The Nightsword is very aggressively styled, and very much focused on high-end gaming performance. You can see it has a unique shape to it. Furthermore, the LMB/RMB are heavily scooped, ensuring your fingers rest in the clicking sweet spot.

The cable is a hard-wearing braid, that’s a little still for my liking, but nothing a mouse bungee can’t help with. One thing I do like, however, is that the durable cable is unlikely to wear out any time soon.

Everything about this mouse feels a little over-engineered and robust, and really that’s no bad thing. Especially if you’re a heavy-handed ape like me. If you’re smashing at your mouse for hours trying to win a game of Apex, this durability will pay off. As a result, this is one of the heavier mice here, but overall, I wouldn’t call it particularly heavy.

On the underside, there are five slipmats ensuring the mouse has good glide. There’s a large wing to rest your thumb on too, and since a lot of weight may rest there, it’s good to see that’s where the largest mat has been installed.

It’s a nice size too, I have long fingers, but my hand still comfortable fits the mouse with a relaxed palm grip. However, long top buttons and good ergonomics on the side mean you can use a more claw-like grip comfortably too.

The mouse feels well balanced if only lightly tilting forward here due to the cable. It can easily be lifted if you’re using a lift-off technique, however, the mouse does seem better suited for a high-DPI relaxed hand play style. You have that big wing there, so may as well make use of it!

There is a good ergonomic shape here though, and the mouse fits the palm of my hand naturally enough that I can lift it with just a light grip.

There’s a film texture grip on the sides too, so the mouse stays firmly planted in your hand, which can be important in those high-intensity gaming moments. However, the real advantage to this mouse comes from a few extra buttons. There’s a sniper button on the left side, which is fully programmable. However, using it as a sniper button is great, as you can hold it or toggle it to drastically lower your DPI for those long-range kills.

Overall, this is a hardcore gaming mouse, but thanks to a few extra features it can give you a real advantage.
