Bethesda and Sony Finally Reach Agreement on PS4 Mods

Modding has allowed many older titles over the years to have a longer lifespan and retain a large player base. Of course, mod support wasn’t extended to the console because of fears about piracy. Thankfully, Microsoft and to a lesser degree Sony, have acknowledged the value of modding and accepted it as an essential component of gaming. Initially, there were some issues between Sony and Bethesda regarding mod support on PlayStation 4 with conflicting reports on who the guilty party was. Without additional information, it’s difficult to say, but at least this situation has finally been resolved. In a post, Bethesda announced mod support will be coming to Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4.

Users can release their own content using Bethesda’s Creation Kit available here. Please note, you will not be able to upload external assets with any PlayStation 4 mods but it’s possible to use existing assets within the game. On another note, both Skyrim and Fallout 4 will support the new PS4 Pro console. Rather impressively, Skyrim will run at a native 4K resolution and should look sublime with HDR. Perhaps, this is the start of both console makers accepting modding and it’s possible more developers will integrate the appropriate support.
