Bethesda Will Share Details about Fallout 4 Mods on Consoles “Soon”

PC gamers have been able to enjoy Fallout 4 mods for quite some time now, and the number of mods that are becoming available for this particular platform is increasing with each passing day. However, the same cannot be said about the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Fallout 4, which still have not received mod support. There’s some good news on the subject, though, as Bethesda has just announced on its official Fallout Twitter account that more details regarding Fallout 4 mods on consoles will be released soon.

This may have something to do with the game’s official modding tool, which is named Creation Kit and will be released for the PC version this year. The kit will allow users to port PC mods to Xbox One consoles at first while the PS4 will also receive them afterwards. This PC-to-console modding system was explained in detail last year by Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines:

“We want to do it in a way that’s easy. This is not about, ‘You have to have a PC,’ ‘You have to do it yourself.’ The idea is you go to play the game, there’s a menu option, you click on it, and there’s a bunch of stuff for you to download. And you click on the stuff that you want and you start playing a game with these new mods. So we want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience. There’s still specifics that we have to work out. It’s part of our post-launch plan.”

The obvious issue is that Microsoft’s consoles will receive these mods before the PlayStation 4, and while this will definitely upset PS4 users, it looks like the reason behind the decision is related to Microsoft’s presence in both the PC and the console markets.

“Why Microsoft? They are a company that is in both of those spaces; they’re heavily in the PC space; they’re heavily in the console space. They had some pretty good ideas about how to make something like this work.”
