Beyond Good & Evil 2 Reportedly Not Among Ubisoft’s Cancelled Games
According to sources from Insider Gaming, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been spared and is not among the projects recently cancelled by Ubisoft. The game is said to still be alive and in development, even though it has been years since the last official update.
Yesterday, Ubisoft announced the cancellation of six projects currently in production. The only one publicly confirmed was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, while the remaining titles are still unknown. These may include new IPs that might never be released.
The Longest Development in Gaming History
It has been more than 17 years since Beyond Good & Evil 2 was officially announced.
Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming reported that the title does not appear on the list of cancelled projects — at least for now. If this information is accurate, the game continues to hold the record for the longest development cycle in video game history.
Originally announced on May 30, 2008, it has now been 6,445 days — that’s 17 years, 7 months, and 22 days — since its reveal. However, it’s worth noting that development is believed to have restarted internally around 2017, which would make the actual development time closer to eight or nine years.
The last official update came in June 2024, when the official X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed that the game was still in development and encouraged fans to stay tuned for future news.
According to Insider Gaming, the rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake also remains in development, though its release has reportedly been delayed to ensure better quality.
As always, these reports should be taken with caution. While Tom Henderson has a strong track record of accurate leaks, not every rumor turns out to be correct.
In other news, Tom Henderson also revealed that more layoffs at Ubisoft are expected to be announced on February 12, 2026.
