Biostar Racing X370GT7 Motherboard Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Biostar GT7 Racing series motherboard is available now from most major retailers, with an MSRP of around £150-160. That’s not a complete bargain, with almost every major brand offering something similar for +/- £20, but it’s competitive enough for the performance it delivered.

Overview

I’m pretty happy with what this motherboard has to offer. I can see that Biostar has made a conscious effort to make it a little bit different from the rest of the market, and that does help. If you want a motherboard of a particular design, you’re far from short on options. The “racing” theme is unique, and I do like the flag design on the PCB. Is it to your taste? I really couldn’t say. Add to that the carbon fibre finishes and the funky RGB LED lighting that decorates the board, and it’ll certainly stand out.

Added Value

In the box, you’ll find the usual bundle of cables, but also an RGB LED fan. This is a nice little bonus item, and with a bank of LED lights on it, it’ll sync up to the lighting on your motherboard, which is cool. However, do you want just one mismatched fan? Can you buy more just like it? Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem so.

Performance

Make no mistake; this motherboard likes up to its racing name. It’s a fast motherboard for X370 and Ryzen AM4. It’s not the fastest, but it competes well enough. My only gripe is that in this price range, competitors do have more widely accepted designs, and armoured PCIe/DIMM slots. Perhaps if Biostar ditch the “free” fan they could price it even more competitively, who knows! For gaming though, the board performed really strong, and the racing theme is undoubtedly going to appeal to that kind of build.
