The development studio and publisher, Game Science, has announced the official release date for the Xbox Series X and S version of the action game Black Myth: Wukong. It will be available starting August 20, 2025, which is late summer. Pre-orders for the game will begin on June 18, with a 20% discount on all versions, valid from that date until July 11.

Black Myth: Wukong will also be available for discounted purchase on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store).
The game has already been one of the best-selling premium games of 2024. Released on August 20, 2024 (exactly one year before its Xbox release), the game reached a peak of 2,415,714 concurrent players on Steam, thanks to its international success and massive sales in China. In fact, the game became such a huge phenomenon in China that it was even used by the government for propaganda purposes.
Game’s Global Success
According to Yang Qi, the co-founder of Game Science and the creative director of Black Myth: Wukong, the game has sold about 7.5 million copies in the West, making up 30% of the total 25 million copies sold (as of February 2025, this number may have increased).
In a post on Weibo, Feng Ji, the game’s director, shared that the only version left to launch was the Xbox version. He mentioned that it was challenging to make the game work on Xbox with only 10 GB of shared memory but expressed that the team had finally overcome these technical difficulties.
